T-Mobile to launch 5G-Advanced network by end of 2024
T-Mobile is on track to deliver its first 5G-Advanced service by the end of the year, leveraging its pure 5G standalone (5G SA) network, which gives it a competitive edge over AT&T and Verizon. Unlike its rivals, which launched the 5G air interface on a core 4G LTE network, T-Mobile has a nationwide 5G SA network, enabling it to upgrade through a software update, per the 3GPP Release 18 specification.
The 5G-Advanced rollout will enhance features like spectral efficiency and positioning, reports Fierce Wireless. T-Mobile is also introducing new capabilities such as voice-over-New Radio (VoNR) and Reduced Capability 5G IoT devices. Additionally, T-Mobile plans to launch Low Latency, Low Loss, Scalable throughput (L4S) technology, aimed at improving video streaming by optimizing bit-rates during network congestion.
Analysts note that L4S will enhance video quality, gaming, and critical communications on T-Mobile’s network, making it a strong player in the 5G space.
