Senate leadership race takes shape; who will replace McConnell?
With Rick Scott’s announcing his candidacy to succeed Mitch McConnell, many ask why not me?
The Journal reports Florida Senator Rick Scott wants to be Senate majority leader. Good for him, said many of his colleagues far, far from the record. Like him, they’d rather be silently strangled by their high hopes than see them ascend unaccompanied.
Ever hopeful, the Journal reports Scott “taps into a vein of unhappiness with the current Republican leadership,” which sent junk writers to anatomy textbooks (let’s be real, websites) only to realize the premise is nearly as lame as a Scott candidacy.
As to the Senate leadership election, the Journal explains, “If no [presumably Republican] candidate wins a clear majority on the first ballot, the senator receiving the fewest votes drops out. The balloting then continues until one candidate secures a majority.”
