Republican House members celebrate Pride with NDAA amendments
Just in time for Pride, House Republicans are targeting the 2025 National Defense Authorization Act for antidiversity trolling, Fox News reports. These include proposals to eliminate the Pentagon’s two primary diversity offices, the Office for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and the Defense Advisory Committee on Diversity and Inclusion. Additionally, the NDAA would block the SecDef from establishing any further DEI committees.
The legislation, to be considered during Pride Month, includes
Two separate amendments offered by Rep. Lauren Boebert ... One would ban the use of federal funds for Pride Month celebrations or instruction within Pentagon-run schools, while the other would mandate that [the SecDef] produce a report comparing taxpayer dollars spent on Pride Month celebrations within the department compared to money spent on Memorial Day and Veterans Day.
Such amendments will draw little Democratic support; it is unclear how many will make it to a full House vote much less Senate passage.
