All options on table for HU’s hospital replacement, WBJ
The Washington Business Journal continues its excellent reporting on developments around the Howard University hospital redevelopment. Since the agreement was negotiated. Adventist HealthCare has taken over operations of Howard’s hospital system and is the likely beneficiary of good will Howard University received as an HBCU during negotiations with DC and the feds.
Now, as WBJ reports, Adventist and Howard are “exploring a number of models and options that will result in a modernized hospital and state-of-the-art academic medical center that will support our learners, enhance delivery of high-quality care to our communities, and increase opportunities that drive economic growth.” This includes questions such as is desired development “within the current imprint,” meaning no new hospital.
WBJ reminds, “The Howard replacement project had secured financial support from the D.C. government, which had approved a $225 million, 20-year tax abatement and $26.6 million over six years to help fund it.”
I’m not a fisher, but even I’ve heard the phrase bait and switch.
