Congress eyes $833B defense budget, expects delay
Defense One’s Audrey Decker reports Rep. Rob Wittman, vice chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, is floating an $833 billion defense topline for fiscal 2025, in line with the Fiscal Responsibility Act. However, Congress will likely first pass a governmentwide continuing resolution. This delay, typical in election years, may postpone final budget decisions until the new Congress in January. Wittman acknowledged the negative impact of CRs on defense operations and said the Pentagon “should be able to do most of the things that it needs to do with that number.” He added, “I think that's the number you're actually going to have to live with.”
