Boeing’s largest union strikes, halting production of 737, 777, and KC-46 air frame
In another self-inflicted blow to the nation’s leading aerospace company, Boeing's largest labor union, representing 33,000 workers, has gone on strike after rejecting a contract offering a 25% wage increase over four years, reports the Journal, among others. The strike has halted production of Boeing's 737, 777, and 767 jets, the latter of which flies as a KC-46 when kitted out as a tanker. Union members cited concerns over stagnant wages and rising living costs as reasons for rejecting the deal, with 94% voting against it. The strike poses a financial threat to Boeing, which is grappling with cash flow issues and debt following recent safety incidents. Union leaders plan to return to negotiations, while industry experts warn of potential supply chain strains and exacerbated jet shortages for airlines. Boeing's shares fell 4% in premarket trading following the news.
