An SBA-pushed setback for mentor-protege JVs?
Tommy Benz writes at FedNewsNetwork that the Small Business Administration (SBA) is proposing changes to its Mentor-Protégé Program that could potentially hinder small business growth in federal contracting. Key proposals include:
- Preventing SBA-approved mentor-protégé joint ventures from bidding on multiple award contracts
- Eliminating the HUBZone price evaluation preference for HUBZone joint ventures formed under the program
These changes come despite the apparent success of JV, such as 180 joint ventures winning spots on GSA's Oasis+ contract. Benz urges stakeholders to voice concerns, emphasizing the program's role in fostering small business growth and innovation in federal contracting. The SBA is encouraged to reconsider these changes to maintain the program's momentum and support for small businesses.
