Agencies earn record high grades on latest FITARA scorecard
As flagged by NextGov, federal agencies improved their grades on the latest Federal IT Acquisition Reform Act (FITARA) scorecard, with more than half of the 24 reviewed entities earning an A for IT modernization and acquisition. Unveiled by Rep. Gerry Connolly, D-Va., the eighteenth scorecard highlighted significant improvements, with thirteen agencies receiving A grades and 10 earning Bs. Only Energy received a C.
The scorecards assess areas such as IT portfolio management, cybersecurity, software licensing, data center optimization, and transparency and risk management in federal IT. These evaluations help Congress and federal leaders track agencywide IT areas of improvement, which in theory keeps IT modernization efficient and on schedule.
The biannual scorecard has reportedly saved the government $31.4 billion since 2005. Connolly noted that Congress might add new categories to future evaluations, including AI workforce management and FedRAMP compliance. HHS and State made the most notable progress, jumping to A from D grades.
