Istanbul is world’s most connected airport; traffic beats prepandemic levels
Istanbul Airport has claimed title of world's most connected airport, offering 309 nonstop destinations, reports Skift (paywall). This surpasses major European hubs like Frankfurt, Paris, and Amsterdam. Notably, global cities such as New York, Tokyo, and Delhi failed to make the top twenty list. Three American airports made the top ten most connected airports list: Chicago O'Hare (tied for fourth), Dallas-Fort Worth (seventh), and Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson (ninth). The ranking, based on data from aviation analytics firm Cirium, highlights the disparity between a city's international standing and its airport's connectivity. This shift in global air traffic patterns comes as the industry recovers from the pandemic, with levels now exceeding those of 2019.
