OpenAI and Anthropic agree to government review of AI models
Verge reports that OpenAI and Anthropic have signed agreements with the US AI Safety Institute to vet their models before and after public release of major AI versions. The initiative coincides with California's new AI safety legislation, which requires AI companies to implement specific safety measures before training advanced foundation models. While some AI companies have expressed concerns about potential harm to smaller open-source developers, the legislation is pending Governor Gavin Newsom's signature. Meanwhile, the White House has been working on securing voluntary commitments from major tech companies on AI safety. These developments reflect ongoing efforts to establish safety protocols while fostering innovation in AI technology.
